Comeback Kids Finish Off Binghamton 3-2

Published Aug 16, 2020

In a tightly contestly match up with Championship implications, the Roc City Boom defeated Greater Binghamton FC 3-2 at Rochester Community Sports Complex.

Stewart Frank had to be taken off in the 5th minute after a nasty collision with a Binghampton attacking player. Binghamton controlled pace early on and struct first as Konrad Zydowicz put the visitors ahead 1-0 on a screamer from about 20 yards out. Ryan Leask forced a nice save right and won a corner right before half but the Boom were unable to capitalize and it went into the break 1-0 for the visitors.

It took the Boom no time to get things started in the 2nd half as Cunyeth Vardar intercepted a pass and played Taner Bay in, who crossed the ball to Ngwese Ebangwese who put home the ball to tie the game at 1-1 in the 48th minute. Just 6 minutes later it was the Boom again as Vardar took advantage of a Binghamton mishap and dribbled around the goalie for a 2-1 Boom lead.

The Boom had the control of posession in the 2nd half but Binghamton were able to counter and got their equalizer in the 78th minute. The last 12 minutes were hotly contested as both teams needed the win to have a chance at winning the division. With 7 minutes left in regulation, the Boom got their winning when George Amoh found Paulin Kolodja to put the home side up for good 3-2.

The win improves the Boom's record to 3-3-1, and Binghamton drops to 2-1-3. Syracuse holds a 6 point lead on Roc City, but have played all their games. If Roc City wins their last 2 games they will finish atop the UPSL Western Division Standings.

Next home game is Sunday 8/23 at 4pm against Krajisnik FC. Tickets are available at https://tickets.upslsoccer.com/events/krajisnik-fc-vs-roc-city-boom2
