Kaboom! Roc City wins UPSL WNY Division Title with 5-0 Win

Published Aug 30, 2020

Going into this afternoon's game, Roc City knew that they needed a win to finish ahead of Syracuse in the Western NY Division. Greater Binghamton FC proved to be a tough opponent in the team's previous 2 matchups, with a 0-0 tie back on 7/10, and a nail biting 3-2 win for the Boom on 8/16. However, today's matchup would prove to be a 1 sided affair.

Peter DiLorenzo got the scoring started, putting home a through ball from Paulin Kolodja to put the home side up 1-0 22 minutes in. He would double the lead with his 2nd of the game as he dispossessed the ball from the Binghamton defense, and dribbled into the box and placed the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-0 at half.

2 minutes into the 2nd half and Jesse Toth would make it 3-0, as an unfortunate bounce off of a Binghamton defender landed in the back of the net. His brother Jared provided the assist. Ngwese Ebangwese would add on to the lead on a nice individual effort as he dribbled past the goalkeeper and played it past him to make it 4-0. Isaac Kissi would finish off the scoring with 6 minutes left as Matt Stefaniw played a ball across the box for an easy tap in.

The win gives Roc City the division title, as they finish 5-3-1 with 17 goals for and only 6 allowed. First year head coach Marc Mandell told me after the game, "It's great to see the growth not only on the field but off of it, we couldn't have done it without the staff we assembled, the fans support, and the love from our sponsors. We will continue to grow in the community, with some exciting announcements coming soon, and hope to replicate what we accomplished this past season."

Roc City will be holding a clinic called Little Kickers Soccer in the Town of Irondequoit for ages 3-9 from 9/15-10/16. Players Omar Mohamed, Stevaughn Service, Mwalizi Mutambo, and Max LaRosa will be running the camp. Registration link is below.
